Dr. Death Season 2 Renewed at Peacock

Peacock’s Critically Acclaimed Anthology Series Dr. Death comes back for a few seconds. The streamer has announced that his true-crime show, based on the Wondery podcast, will be returning for a second season. Where Season 1 Focused On Dr. Christopher Duntsch (interpreted by Joshua Jackson), season 2 will tackle a new subject: the surgeon Paolo Macchiarini. Dr. Death marks the seventh show to earn Peacock second-season renewals, following shows such as Bel-Air, Rutherford Falls, Girls5evaand more.

Season 2 will focus on Macchiarini, a charming surgeon whose innovative techniques earned him the nickname “Miracle Man”. When an investigative journalist named Benita Alexander asks for a story about Macchiarini, Alexander’s life is changed when the lines between personal and professional begin to blur. As she learns how far Macchiarini will go to protect his secrets, a group of doctors from around the world make their own shocking discoveries that only create more questions about who the “Miracle Man” really is.

Dr. Death Season 1 premiered last year and focused on Dr. Duntsch, a disgraced neurosurgeon who maimed and killed over 38 people throughout his career. As the body count grew, two surgeons joined forces with the assistant district attorney to end Dr. Duntsch’s reign of terror. The show was well received and earned a Critics’ Choice nomination for Best Limited Series, as well as a Certified New Score on Rotten Tomatoes. Collider Jeff Sneider praised the cast and creative team in their review of Season 1, giving the season an overall rating of A-.

Ashley Michel Hoban will serve as writer and showrunner for Season 2, succeeding Season 1 showrunner Patrick Macmanus. The two will serve as executive producers alongside Todd Black, Jason Blumental, Steve Tischand Taylor Latham escape artists, and Aaron Hart, Hernan Lopezand Marshal Lewy of Wondery. UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, will produce. There is currently no word on casting.
