Guardians’ Chris Antonetti Named MLB Executive of the Year by Sporting News – Morning Journal

Guardians President of Baseball Operations Chris Antonetti has been named MLB Manager of the Year by The Sporting News.

The Sporting News announced its various winners on October 27. The World Series between the Houston Astros of the American League and the Philadelphia Phillies of the National League begins on October 28.

Antonetti received the honor of executive of the year in a “leaky” vote by the league’s other 29 baseball executives, according to the story written by Jason Foster of The Sporting News. Antonetti also won the honor in 2017.

The accolades for the Guardians end with Antonetti.

Brandon Hyde of the Baltimore Orioles was named AL Manager of the Year. The Orioles, 52-110 in 2021, finished 83-79 this season. American League managers have voted.

“Hyde received 50% of the votes and edged out Dusty Baker of Houston and Terry Francona of Cleveland for the honor,” Foster wrote.

Francona is set to be named AL Manager of the Year by the Baseball Writers of America Association. BBWAA awards will be announced after the World Series.

Julio Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners is the AL Rookie of the Year. He was named on 80% of the ballots to beat Steven Kwan of the Guardians.

“There were several standout rookies in the American League in 2022, but Julio Rodriguez stood out way above the rest,” Foster wrote.

Aaron Judge of the Yankees has been named MLB Most Outstanding Player. Astros pitcher Justin Verlander has been named the AL Comeback Player of the Year.

Buck Showalter of the Mets is the NL Manager of the Year. Brandon Drury, who started the 2022 season with the Reds and finished it with San Diego after being traded to the Padres, was named NL Comeback Player of the Year.

Braves right-hander Spencer Strider is the National League Rookie of the Year. He was 11-5 and struck out 202 batters.
