ALEXANDRIA [mdash] Lillian E. (LeRoy) Gipe, 95, came into peace and rest on Friday, December 10, 2021 from Alexandria Care Center following a long illness.
She was born February 3, 1926 in Ronshohocken, Pa. To Bruce and Marie (Dott) LeRoy, and has lived in Alexandria for the past 92 years.
She graduated from Alexandria High School, class of 1944, and attended St. Francis College in Fort Wayne. She had worked for the Alexandria-Times Tribune for three years and retired from AT&T in 1988 after 20 years.
She was a former member of Delta Theta Tau and Alexandria Business and Professional Women. She was a former leader of the Girl Scouts. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church’s Altar and Rosary Society; she also ran a thrift store. She was also a member of the Midwest Writer’s Association.
Lillian loved crosswords, reading, writing and traveling. A special family memory was that Lillian was watching “Jeopardy!” on TV with all the grandchildren over the years.
The survivors are sons, Paul (Nancy Neis) Gipe of Bakersfield, California, and William Gipe of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; daughters, Lee Ann Frost and Gina (Curt) Brisco, both of Alexandria; daughter-in-law, Betty Gipe of Mount Summit; granddaughters, Gayle Frost Soliday of Mount Summit, Bethany Brisco of Los Angeles and Emma (Evan) Bates of Indianapolis;
grandsons, Dale Frost of Mount Summit, Derek Frost and Zakary Frost, both of Alexandria; four great-grandchildren, Liam Bates, Deacon Frost, Tristan Soliday and Luke Soliday; several nieces and nephews; and the extended family.
Lillian was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 18 years, Billie Gipe, in 1968; sons, Dennis Gipe and James Leroy Gipe; son-in-law, Tim Frost; brothers, sisters and a host of friends.
A Christian Burial Mass will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 820 W. Madison St., Alexandria. Father Martin Sandhage will be the celebrant. Visitations will take place from 11 am Thursday in the church narthex.
Interment will follow the service at Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
