Stevens philosophers discuss the nature of dreams – The Stute

0

The editors of Stevens’ philosophy journal, Palaver, met on Wednesday for a panel discussion on their Spring 2022 topic, Dreams. The journal, available in PDF or print format, includes four prompts on the nature of dreams. For each prompt, a Stevens student and teacher wrote a series of essays, responding to the prompt and their respective pair. The purpose of the dialogues and the panel was to be able to deepen the philosophical concepts than if they were approached alone. Andrew Phillips, Professor Sarah Minsloff, Aleks Dimoski, Professor John Horgan and Professor Nemira Kopp wrote for the journal and Milena Sudarikov, Garrett Kincaid and Professor Benjamin Ogden wrote and are members of the Editorial Board. Kincaid inspired the topic of discussion, as he kept a comprehensive dream journal with 60,000 words and nearly 300 entries. During the panel, speakers responded to questions and ideas from the audience. The group spent much of the time discussing whether dreams have inherent meaning or if meaning derived from them is simply attributed meaning. Professor Ogden and the Board of Trustees have invited all interested members of the Stevens community to complete the form via the QR code in order to read or contribute to the journal in the future.
