It looks like “General Hospital” is finally getting mainstream press attention thanks to the likes of TV Guide Magazine and TVLinethe popular entertainment website founded by the former soap magazine reporter Michael Ausiello who is also president and editorial director of the site.
In the Cheers & Jeers section of the latest issue of tv guide (January 31-February 13, 2022), on newsstands now, Senior Writer Damien Holbrook gives the soap opera a “cheer” for killing Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) last month, saying, “Kudos to ‘General Hospital’ for unplugging Luke Spencer. Having Anthony Geary’s bad boy perish in a cable car accident is a big swing that could pay off if the mystery surrounding his sleazy off-screen death is attracting more attention on the ABC soap opera.
Port Charles City mourned Luke on the January 21 episode which scored 0.40 in Women 18-49 and 0.59 in Women 25-54. Overall, the full week averaged 2.184 million viewers, down -125,000 viewers from the previous week’s averages.

Meanwhile, Ausiello recently tweeted, “The #HospitalGeneral has maintained a miraculous level of quality over the past 2 years, given the forces opposing daytime soap operas (including budget crunch, pandemic). Clever writing/directing, A+ distribution, plots tied to the show’s story. It gives me hope for the genre.
Ausiello previously worked for both Update of the soap opera and Soaps in depth before going to tv guide in 1999. He also worked for Weekly entertainment before finally starting TVLine in 2011. The publication is owned by Penske Media Corporation.
